Intro-(Background)

I chose Frankenstein because I found this topic very intersting. I really liked the book even though it was my first time reading it . It helped explain and enlighten me more  about Frankenstein  and how this monster has evolved throughout the years. The book became the foundation on how the monster was first created. I found that people preceive the monster very different from what it is portrayed in the book. Thus, I chose this topic.

The Monster

robert-de-niro-frankenstein--large
Victor Frankenstein creates the monster. He creates him as a scientific experiment but soon after begins to resent him. The monster faces rejection and fear from his creator and the society. He is left out on his own and forced to learn things first hand. The monster tries very hard to emulate and fit in with the society but, his appearance would not let him and the society rejects him. He grows angry and tries feels that Victor is to blame so then he sets out to punish him and his loved ones. The monster feels abandoned and longs for companionship. He feels that Victor is the one who can offer him that. He grows very close to Victor throughout the book that he feels he doesn't need to live when Victor dies in the end.

Theme( Passive Women)

Mary Shelley, the author who is also the  daughter of a feminist; ironically portrays women as very passive in Frankenstein. In Frankenstein, the women are oppressed by society and are forced to suffer. This is oppression is exposed when Justine is accused and executed for a murder she did not commit. She is helpless and not able to defend herself.  This oppression is further shown when Caroline Beaufort dies trying to take care of her adopted daughter.  This oppression over women gives the men greater authority and power  as they are always the ones who seem to come to the rescue of these helpless woman. This theme is exposed throughout  the book which is a great irony coming from an author with a feminist background.

Geographic and Physical Setting

Scenic beauty of nature photography 1

The physical setting plays a very important role throughout the book and becomes reflective of the characters emotions. This reflection and influence of emotions is especially exposed by Victor and the monster who both share the love of nature. Scenic beauty and majestic nature brings happiness to Victor, gloomy and awful nature  helped spur misery and shame. This correlation between nature and mood is also depicted by the monster, as he too felt lifted  with clear and gentle nature but, felt misery and loneliness with turbulent nature. Nature and physical setting played an important role and had a direct relationship to the characters emotions and mood.
